FIREARMS HANDLING

In some arctic destinations, especially Svalbard, firearms are available for hire. In fact, in Svalbard it is a requirement that anyone leaving a settlement area must carry a firearm. Although the rental procedure is straightforward, anyone without any form of training in the use of firearms may in fact be a liability - to themselves and to their fellow travellers - and in addition may not be giving themselves the best chances of survival if an encounter with a bear is experienced.

From 2016 we will be able to offer a firearms handling course. This will give visitors the opportunity to practice handling and firing rifles similar to those available for rent in the arctic. It is strongly recommended that visitors are comfortable handling firearms BEFORE they travel, as having a few practice shots upon arrival is considered inadequate.

BEAR ALARM SET-UP

For purchasers (or renters) of our alarm, we can arrange practical demonstrations of the best way to set up perimeter fences using our alarms. Again, it is better to practice before travelling and this can be combined with the above course if desired.
